Meet the team

Meet the team...

Caroline Brown - Team Leader

My name is Caroline and I am very excited to be leading this GOLD project to Peru. I graduated from UCL with a degree in History and German last year, and now work in a Tudor hunting lodge in the middle of Epping Forest, where I sometimes get to dress up.

I’ve been in guiding since I was 7, first at home in Derbyshire, then becoming a Leader at 1st Covent Garden Brownies when I was at university. I have recently started at 6th Chingford Brownies, which is near where I work.

I was selected to go to Chile on a GOLD project in 2011 and can’t wait to return to South America and start a whole new adventure with my fantastic team!

Claire Gilbert - Documenter
My name is Claire. Aside from being a Guide Leader, I am a Primary School teacher. I graduated from Middlesex University in 2011. I currently teach in Plaistow, London but I am planning on jetting off around the world to travel and teach abroad in the near future.

I Have been involved in Guiding since I was a Brownie at 7yrs old. I am currently an Assistant Leader at 2nd Buckhurst Hill Guides and I am on the membership support committee for Essex West.

On project, my role will be documentor. I will be taking lots of pictures of the team at work and will be keeping this blog throughout the course of the project so you can keep up to date with what we are doing. I am really excited to be travelling to Peru and I can't wait to experience a new culture and make a difference to guiding in another country. The work that GOLD projects do is incredible and I am very excited to be part of the first year in Peru!

Hannah Brutin - First Aider

I am currently at Edinburgh University in my first year of Medicine.

In guiding I am a Peer Educator and involved in running sessions on a range for topics, including leadership skills and poverty.

When on my project my role is First Aider. I am really looking forward to Peru, particularly the challenge of planning and running sessions for leaders. I hope the trip will develop my leadership and team-work skills and I learn a lot from experiencing a new culture.

Katherine Adams - Secretary

Hola!, I’m Katherine, I’m 21 and I’m a 3rd year Geography student (not for much longer!) at the University of Sheffield. As a physical geographer I absolutely love all things outdoorsy, and have been lucky enough to travel for research field classes as part of my course.

At the moment I’m a Leader with my local unit in Sheffield, and hope to maintain a leadership role in whichever location I end up at after university.

On project, my role will be the team secretary (taking minutes, organising phone conferences) - which I am already enjoying as it requires work pre-project! I am so excited to be travelling to Peru in just a matter of weeks to be part of a GOLD project. Seeing the difference that other projects in the past have made around the globe has made me particularly excited to be part of a new team to Peru, and I am looking forward to establishing links which will last for the next four years of the project and beyond. Roll on August and our Peruvian adventure!

Heather Plummer - Treasurer

Hi! My name is Heather Plummer and I am a Brownie Leader in Glasgow. I have been involved with guiding since I was a Rainbow, and recently completed my Queens Guide Award and Gold Duke of Edinburgh.

I am currently working as a Graduate Engineer at Jacobs UK. I am in the highways department working on major road projects across the country.

I am the treasurer of the group heading to Peru in 2014. This involves opening the bank account required and making sure we have enough money to cover us while we are away.
I am so excited to be part of a GOLD trip and make a difference in Guiding across the world. It will be a truly amazing experience and one I can't wait to share with everyone.

Emma Peckitt - Resources

My name is Emma Peckitt. I live in Thirsk, Yorkshire and have just finished an Art and Design Foundation Diploma at York College.

In September I will be starting at Derby University to study Creative Expressive Therapies.

In guiding, I am a member of a Senior Section unit as well as a Brownie Leader. I love being a part of guiding due to the amazing opportunities it brings and this GOLD project in Peru is a great example of this.
