What is GOLD?

What is GOLD?

GOLD stands for Guiding Overseas Linked with Development and started in the UK in 1991.It gives young women the chance to make a difference in guiding all over the world.

GOLD projects work in partnership with Guide Associations across the globe. Projects are initiated when a Guiding Association makes a request to Girlguiding through the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

A GOLD project usually lasts for 3-5 years with a different team from the UK participating each year. Young woman aged 18-30 are selected and formed into teams of six.

Each project varies and can involve working with adult leaders as well as working with Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and the Senior Section. The aims for each project are set together with the host country and participants plan to leave a legacy, making GOLD a truly sustainable project.

So what's happening in Peru?

This is the very first year of a project in Peru. Our project aims are to strengthen existing membership and the quality of guiding offered, and to grow guiding in both new and existing provinces.

We will be working alongside a Peru GOLD team to:

  • deliver leadership training to new and existing volunteers aged 18+
  • train leaders with three or more years experience to become regional trainers and deliver leadership trainings
  • run workshops for the National and Local Councils on management, recruitment and retention techniques
We will be delivering all the above to members of the Guiding Association in the capital, Lima, and the provinces of Sullana and Tacna.
